Audition Date: Thursday 2 November, 7:30pm

This is billed as an evening of comedy shorts and songs which is… exactly what it is. Philip takes a freewheeling ride through the imagination and explores the realms of the absurdly offbeat, the comically parodying, the amusingly touching, the playfully engaging and at times the deliciously nonsensical.

Six playlets and four songs take a peek into marital breakups and makeups, the lives of two losers, modern art critiquing, new age groups, Burbage and Shakespeare, a visit from Death, Vincent Van Gogh sings, an Italian waiter educating customers, a musical seduction and two resting actors reminiscing.

These scenes came about through wanting to take a sabbatical from writing full length plays and to enjoy a little diversion composing a few short comedy sketches. The scenes are stand alone and have no linking connection other than in this production the same actors may pop up in different guises during the show. It was a good excuse to go ‘full bonkers’ too and flex the absurdity muscles, which is not so easily sustainable or justifiable in a full-length play.  The songs have been selected from a couple of my musicals, one already written and one in the process of being written and are included to add a full variety feel to the evening’s entertainment.

Please download pdf script and find out about songs from Philip Ayckbourn website. Actors may be asked to appear in more than one sketch.
